4 Steps to Better Fuel Efficiency | |||||
|
We all struggle with the impact of high gas prices. You can improve the fuel efficiency of your Volvo with 4 easy steps. 1. Keep your Volvo running at peak efficiency with regular service. A properly tuned Volvo will get many more miles on each tank of fuel. At $4.00 per gallon, a 3 MPG savings will save most of us nearly $600 per year. Change oil every 3,000 to 4,000 miles. Longer oil change intervals increase the dirt in your oil which speeds wear and decreases efficiency. 2. Avoid excessive speed. Many Volvos have an “info” switch that can be set to show the current MPG rate. Practice throttle application techniques (like lifting just before you top a hill) to get the most MPG while maintaining the desired speed. 3. Don’t over-pay for fuel. Very few Volvo’s need to run on Premium gas. Most of us can buy regular gas from the lowest priced station. The gas quality doesn’t change from brand to brand, some brands put additives in to change the fuel but these have little or no impact on engine wear or fuel efficiency. 4. Maintain proper tire inflation. Low tire pressures increase tire wear and creates MPG robbing higher rolling resistance. Look inside your drivers door jamb or gas door flap for the proper tire pressures but we suggest about 38 PSI.
